What are Skilled Services?
If you or a loved one have found yourself in an acute hospital setting or has been around an in-patient medical facility, you may have come across the terms Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), Skilled services, or Skilled Nursing care. In essence, skilled care refers to the care or treatment a patient needs that can only be carried out by a licensed professional. There are several instances where a patient would require skilled care and different communities who can provide it. Skilled Nursing Home or Skilled Nursing Facility refers to the building where these professional services are offered. But in many instances, a patient would prefer to receive these skilled services in their own home. Skilled nursing services are mostly regulated by the U.S Department of Health and The Center for Medicare and Medical Services (CMS). To be certified by CMS, Skilled nursing providers must meet strict criteria and are regularly inspected to ensure quality standards of care are being met.
